“We are alive and dying to live.”
The Subtle Difference Between Life and Living
“We are alive and dying to live.”
Life surrounds us quietly. It whispers in café corners, murmurs through leaves in empty parks, and pulses beneath still waters. Yet, even amidst this abundance, we keep wandering, eyes open, searching — as if life itself were hidden somewhere just beyond our grasp.
But perhaps it isn’t life we truly seek. Life is simply existing — steady, ordinary, and ever-present. It’s breathing, waking, working, resting; mundane routines that define our days. Maybe what we’re genuinely yearning for isn’t life itself, but something deeper: the act of living. After all, “it’s not the life, it’s the living we ache for.”

Why Existence Alone Feels Empty
Think about it: if merely existing were enough, why do we still feel restless, incomplete? Why does a heartbeat alone not bring contentment? Because living is entirely different. It’s vivid, unpredictable, messy. Living demands courage — to explore, love, hurt, and risk losing something in exchange for gaining something truly worthwhile.
Between life and living stretches an invisible line, and most of us linger uncertainly somewhere in the middle. We stay safe, choosing familiar paths, holding our breath, hesitant to dive into the unknown. Isn’t it ironic? “We are alive and dying to live,” yet we crave something more profound than mere survival.
Maybe we feel lost because we’ve confused simple existence with truly experiencing life. Days pass by in duties and survival tasks, and we forget that living means thriving — finding joy amid chaos, being moved by simple things, chasing dreams even when outcomes are uncertain.
Choosing to Truly Live: A Life Coaching Perspective
To truly live might mean intentionally losing ourselves — not aimlessly, but deliberately stepping away from safety to find what truly excites us. Perhaps the real question isn’t why we feel lost, but rather what we’re willing to lose to genuinely find ourselves.
Life and living — two ends of the same spectrum. We exist within the first, unquestionably. But choosing to move toward the other, consciously embracing life with courage and passion — that remains our decision. Will you cross that line? Will you choose not just to be alive, but to truly live?
Because ultimately, the difference between existing and genuinely living might simply be having the courage to step beyond comfort into uncertainty.
